What drew you to the Apprenticeship Scheme at MotoNovo Finance?

I left university with no experience in any field except the restaurant trade, and although I gained some great skills from working in hospitality and studying Psychology at university, I needed to get some hands-on experience. That’s what I like about MotoNovo, I’m gaining on-the-job experience and getting paid a salary! I had always wanted to work in an office, and this was my chance.


Tell us a bit about how an Apprenticeship at MNF is assessed?

The apprenticeship is often assessed through observations, and evidence based work. I meet up with my assessor every month or so to determine what I need to achieve or prepare in time for their next visit. Within my role, I have been allocated a certain amount of hours per week to dedicate to the work I need to carry out for my apprenticeship. This is great because when I first applied I thought I would have to complete this work in my own time. From the outset I’ve been told that this apprenticeship should be like any other job where you can keep your work life and personal life separate. I have been given some great opportunities within this role, including the chance to go to careers fairs and speak to people about my experience.
 

What does being a Business Support Administrator involve?

My role sits within the business support team. One of the reasons I wanted to join this team was because they play an important part in the business. Without us, certain letters wouldn’t be sent out; payments from online/telephone/cheques wouldn’t be processed; customers wouldn’t get their welcome packs or copies of their agreements; departments wouldn’t have any paper or stationary. This is all a minor reflection of what my team do, and although the department is small, it shows how vital we all are. I began by shadowing members of the team, which really helped me to bond with each of them and understand all the different processes involved in the job. Although we can be busy at times, I like that we can still have fun and it’s a lot more relaxed than any other place I’ve worked.
 

What skills have you developed during your time here?

I’ve learnt many different skills over the past 6 months at MotoNovo, the main one being teamwork. Without teamwork a lot of the jobs we do wouldn’t be finished on time and there could be consequences because of this. I have developed my personal skills and been allowed to work in a way that suits me best.

My future goal is to focus on working my way up, potentially becoming a team leader in a role that suits me best, or becoming a project manager. The apprenticeship is helping me with this because I’m starting at the bottom, learning different aspects of the company and making connections with different departments. The recruitment team have helped me to understand the different parts of the business and we’re discussing the opportunity to sit down with each of them to help discover the right direction for me.
