My time at MotoNovo Finance has been very exciting so far. Having only joined the team a little over a year ago, I feel really lucky to have gained a promotion already, and I can’t wait to see how my career progresses in the future.
My journey started when I saw an online advert promoting a recruitment event for sales and customer service roles. At first, I was a little unsure if I had the skills they were looking for as I’d never worked in an office environment before. After I completed my Economics degree at Cardiff University, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, so I fell into working at a local restaurant, serving customers as a waiter. After hearing from some friends how great it was to work at MotoNovo (and my Grandma telling me all about a news article she’d read and how they were a Times Best Company!) I decided to take the leap and applied for the recruitment event.
I learnt that I’d been shortlisted really quickly and the whole process from applying, to completing a credit check and choosing my time slot was seamless and easy. Leading up to the event, I researched MotoNovo as much as possible and soon learnt about their fantastic benefits package and fun culture. When the date approached I was keen to make a good impression.
As I walked in to the recruitment event, I was feeling really nervous, I’d never been to anything like that before and was a little unsure of what to expect. However after been greeted by a friendly member of the Recruitment Team, I soon relaxed. The morning itself was really informal, we were given lots of information about the roles available and were asked to participate in a few individual and team exercises. I then went on to have an informal chat with one of the Recruitment Officers, who asked me questions about myself and what I’d been doing since leaving university. It was really nice to chat in more detail about the roles and together we decided which ones I was more suited to. The chat was all about my personality and what I could bring to the team, rather than just focusing on my work experience. I left feeling positive but also anxious to find out if I’d made it through to the next stage.
Again, I found out really quickly that I’d been shortlisted and was invited back to attend an assessment centre for a role in their Key Accounts Team. At the assessment centre, all candidates had a chance to meet the Manager and Team Leader for the department. They gave us a great overview of the roles and the team and really took the time to get to know us throughout the day. We were asked to take part in a few group exercises, followed by an interview after lunch. The interview itself was really relaxed and focussed more on communication, team working, and relationship building skills. As I had experience in dealing with customers face to face, I was able to give plenty of good examples of my skills. After the day was over, I felt even more passionate about working at MotoNovo and hoped I’d done enough to impress.
I got the call to tell me I got the job the very next day and I was absolutely ecstatic, I straight away phoned all my family members to share my news and I soon received by offer letter in the post.
My first two days at MotoNovo Finance were spent in the company induction. It was great to meet and make friends with other new starters at various levels and from different departments throughout the business and I soon found myself settling in to my new role. My first few weeks mainly consisted of on-the-job training. It was really practical which is what I like and I was able to pick things up quickly. There was a lot of support from my team mates and managers and it wasn’t long before I was into the full swing of things.
After passing my probationary period and becoming a valuable member of the team, I decided I was ready to take the next step in my career. With help and support from my manager, I decided to apply for a role in our Pricing Team. The Pricing Manager and the rest of the team were really great in letting me spend time with them and I was able to pick their brains to find out more about their team. After recently being offered this new role, I am really excited to take on my next new challenge at MotoNovo Finance. If you’re looking to work for a company that values your individualism and will give you an abundance of career paths, then come take that opportunity to join us at one of our recruitment events!
My top tips when attending a recruitment event is to always…
Do your homework – Find out as much information about the company as you can. Not only is it great to learn all about the culture and history of the business, but it also helpful having this knowledge to utilise during the day.
Be yourself – Bring your personality and showcase your abilities, remember MotoNovo celebrates our unique qualities so don’t be afraid to show them.
Have fun – I know it can be really nerve wracking but remember to enjoy yourself. MotoNovo pride themselves on their recruitment events and assessment centres being really friendly and informal. They’ll do their utmost to make you feel comfortable and relaxed
And finally, don’t forget to smile!
